Kindergarten students listened to the story, "The Big Pumpkin", by Erica Silverman and made witches! The real fun started when the witches took over. The witch is the main character in "The Big Pumpkin" who wants a pumpkin to make pumpkin pie. The story teaches the value of teamwork and the lesson of valuing everyone, and finding help in unlikely places.
Kindergarten students learned about the artist Henri Matisse, "Matisse the Wild Beast! " he was called that because he used so many bright colors. Matisse also made many black and white drawings. Students looked at his black and white drawings of faces and discussed the different kinds of lines he used. Then, students made their own black and white paintings of faces.
Kindergarten artists identified and practiced naming different types of lines. They practiced drawing different kinds of lines in a variety of art media.
